Star Wars Outlaws, was developed by Ubisoft Massive Entertainment, offers a fresh perspective within the Star Wars universe, stepping away from the traditional Jedi narrative to focus on the life of a scoundrel.
Set between “The Empire Strikes Back” and “Return of the Jedi,” the game follows Kay Vess, a young scoundrel seeking freedom in a galaxy under Imperial rule. Accompanied by her loyal companion, Nix, and later joined by ND-5, a reprogrammed Commando Droid, the narrative delivers a blend of new and familiar elements of the Star Wars Universe.
Star Wars Outlaws is a vast open-world environment with multiple planets, allowing players to explore various planets, engage in side quests, and interact with different factions. For Ubisoft fans, the game should feel familiar as it heavily borrows elements from titles such as Assassin’s Creed and Uncharted, featuring climbing, shooting, and stealth mechanics with some RPG-like elements.
Including Nix as a companion adds a strategic layer to combat and exploration, assisting in various scenarios. For example, you can send Nix to trigger an explosion to distract guards when attempting to complete a mission using stealth or even take them out during one of the many thrilling action sequences. The game also introduces a reputation system, allowing players to influence relationships with different factions, which can impact gameplay dynamics and open new opportunities to explore giving gamers some incredible replay value.
The game’s open-world design offers expansive environments across planets like Toshara, Kijimi, Akiva, and the iconic Tatooine. Each location is richly detailed, capturing the essence of the Star Wars universe. Players can undertake various activities, from mercenary tasks to exploration, enhancing the sense of immersion. The environments are visually stunning but can feel empty, with side missions becoming repetitive over time.
Graphically, Star Wars Outlaws is gorgeous. Featuring impressively detailed environments and character models that bring the galaxy to life. The soundtrack stays true to the franchise’s legacy, providing an auditory experience that complements the gameplay and enhances immersion. You’d be hard-pressed to find anything to complain about here.
Star Wars Outlaws offers a refreshing departure from the typical Jedi-centric narratives, providing an engaging experience for fans interested in the grittier side of the galaxy. I honestly didn’t know taking the Jedi out of the limelight would be so engaging and thrilling. Kay Vess is an incredible new character to the Star Wars Universe and I’m excited and hopeful we’ll get to see more of her in the future.
Star Wars Outlaws has beautiful environments, and compelling storytelling and brings the gamers into the Star Wars universe making it a noteworthy addition to the rich Star Wars canon.
Star Wars Outlaws is a must-own title, especially for those of us who love the Star Wars Universe.
