Our friends from 10tons are at it again with yet another release in Time Recoil.
Time Recoil is a twin stick top down shooter from the team who brought us Neon Chrome and they’ve given us a fun and entertaining sometimes frustrating gaming experience. The story is quite simple. A man who clearly thought Taserface was a great name(If you don’t know what I’m talking about check here) and calls himself Mr.TimeĀ uses a machine called a Time Eater to devastate Europe in his quest for global domination. Fast-forward to the mid 80s when the resistance, calling themselves the Recoilers have acquired their own time travel device and plan to send Alexa back various pivotal moments in Mr.Time’s rise to power in an attempt to thwart his plans for dominance.
One of the things I really enjoyed about this game was how each level was more than just a level of shooting. It felt more to me like they were puzzles with shooting. Whether it’s timing your kills to be able to flip into slow motion to circle around the bad guys with armor or strategically shooting the exploding barrels to cause a chain reaction was a lot of fun. Each chapter took me a good while to get through. I have to be honest I didn’t really pay much attention but I know I spent a good amount of time starting over and over and over. Which I will say can be rather frustrating especially when you get so so close to the end and then die at the hands of a bad guy you didn’t realize was nearby.
The graphics are nothing to write home about but that’s really not that big of a deal as graphics don’t necessarily make the game. Each level looks pretty generic though varied enough with the different layouts and objective. Some objectives will have Alexa kidnapping scientists, interrogating executives or just blowing things up.
All in all I would say that Time Recoil was an entertaining game. The team at 10tons has a really good platform here by which ti build and expand upon going forward. If twin stick shooters are your thing, I’d recommend giving Time Recoil a chance.
Time Recoil is available on PC, Xbox One and Playstation 4 at a price of $13.99USD
