Turtle Beach Kone II Air Review

It’s the latest and greatest from their line of PC gaming peripherals that Turtle Beach says will “reset the bar”. The Kone II Air is looking to build upon the successes of the past while continuing to enhance the experience to bring you perfection. The Kone II Air has a newly refined ergonomic design/shape. adds dual wireless capability with the wireless dongle or Bluetooth delivering 130hrs up to 350 respectively on a single charge.

It has 12 buttons including the 4D free-spinning scroll wheel and a new Owl-Eye 26K optical sensor for an insanely smooth and precise tracking experience. The Tital optical switches return with a 100 million click lifecycle.

I had the opportunity to receive this device for review purposes so thank you to Turtle Beach for this opportunity.

The first thing you will notice is opening the Turtle Beach products feels like a premium experience. The packaging is pretty and pleasing to the eye. Inside the box, you’ll see the mouse nestled in all its glory, , a beautifully long braided flexible USB cable, a low-profile wireless adapter, side grip tape which adds a little extra texture to the mouse, and some heat-treated PTFE glides for silky smooth movement.

Right out of the box, I fell in love with the feel of the Kone II Air. It feels noticeably different – heavier and beefier in the hand. For me – my favorite mouse of all time was the Microsoft Explorer from years ago and I’ve struggled to find a mouse that fit in my hand quite the same way. That’s not to say that I haven’t enjoyed using other mice from Turtle Beach, Logitech etc just that none of them ever felt this close to perfect for me.

The new Swarm II is where you’ll manage compatible Turtle Beach devices. Here is where you’ll apply updates to your, firmware upgrades as well as programming and fine-tuning your speed, precision settings as well as your colors and custom buttons. I like having the customizable functions for a variety of applications.

As a whole, the Turtle Beach Kone II Air is a solid and extremely capable mouse for gaming and day-to-day PC work. The battery life is game-changing with 130hrs of use on wireless and 350hs when running Bluetooth. It feels great in my hand and it has quickly become the best mouse that fits my hand most comfortably in about 15yrs. I will be exclusively using this one for years to come. If there’s one thing that I’m not super fussy about it’s the charging of this mouse. The Kone XP had a convenient charging station, which I would have preferred over connecting it to a cable to recharge though – it does offer the ability to still be able to use the mouse while it charges.

The Kone 2 and the Kone 2 Air are essentially identical devices with the exception that the Air is wireless and the base Kone 2 is wired. The Kone 2 comes in at 89.99 Canadian and the Kone 2 Air does come at a premium price of $159.00 but I can assure you, it’s well worth its weight in gold. Either of these devices is sure to serve you well.
